While Steven was in Japan,
we stayed at Hotel Century Southern Tower.

The location is superb.

The view's great, too.

Everything I desire is in the palm of my hand.

Such as...

Pierre Hermé cake.

Or...

Ladurée's cake.

And also...

Jean-Paul Hévin's cake.

Not only for sweets,
but for breakfast, I can have something like...

Soup Stock's 2 soup combo meal.

If, for lunch, Steven and I can't quite agree on what to eat,
we can also get stuff from Takashimaya Department Store.

So many choices.

So many.

And for dinner, if we are too exhausted from running around,
we can just walk across the street to Lumine or MyLord for dinner.

How easy life is here.

For non-shopping entertainment,
we can either go out drinking, (which we don't really do anymore...)
or go to Karaoke (which we LOVE to do!!)
or go to game centers!!

We love playing the UFO catcher.

And look what we came home with.

A couple of Rilakkumas.
So cute.

And to call it a night, there's always this place to stop by.


Ah.

This hotel is like heaven on earth...


And this posting officially marks the end of Japan segment!!
Now moving on to Itaaaaalia!!

美しい女性二人と過ごした夜は明け。。。

朝から雨。

ちょっと夜更かししたから遅めの朝食／早いお昼をホテルで頂きました。

大根餅。

ん〜。。。

胃の調子が悪いから食べ易いものと思って。

五目中華粥。

なんか、両方とも


お腹が何となく満たされた後は部屋に戻ってゴロゴロ。
チェックアウトが遅かったので

この日は生憎一日中雨。

「雨に濡れる事無く何が出来るか？」
と、多分１、２時間ぐらい話し合った結果、
取りあえず新宿へ。

ルミネで洋服を見て、ちょっと歩き疲れたからお茶タイム。

Brasserie Barbaraでクレープ。
のほほんと食べて飲んで話して笑って。

そのうち、本格的にお腹が空いて来たので
（ほら、お昼、早かったしね。）
夕食を何処で食べるか話し合い。
（食べてばっかりって思ってるでしょ？！）


色々考えたんだけど、雨の中歩くのが嫌だからと言う事で
ルミネに入ってるお店へ。

普段、僕はこういう料理ってお店で注文しないけど、
これはすっごくツボにハマってもう一皿追加注文しました！

ここはつくねが何種類もあって、

柚子胡椒と明太マヨのつくね。

あ〜、美味しかった
何を食べても美味しい、日本って。

この後は、お店がまだ開いているので、
（日本だもん！　１０時位まで開いてる！！）
また買物をしてその後解散。
地元の駅に着いた時には雨もやっと止みました。

一日中雨に降られる事なく乾いたまま楽しく過ごせた
際立って何かしたって訳じゃ無いけど友達と
一緒に時を過ごせただけで十分幸せな日。

My Marc Jacobs iPhone cover I got in LA
turned out very inconvenient, unfortunately.

Whenever I would take a picture, it would turn blue.
Not only that, but because the cover was made of silicone,
it was a burden to get it in and out of my pocket

So, a new iPhone cover was on my shopping list for Japan.

Here are some cool ones that caught my eye.

A wooden iPhone case.

I so wanted to buy this,
but when I tried it on the phone, well, it didn't fit.
Because it's wood, the shape changes...
Plus a store clerk told me that the case would split in half
if I dropped the phone....

I loved the idea, but this wasn't gonna work.

I also spotted these.

Traditional Japanese urushi lacquered cases.

These are awesome.
But I have to order it and sadly I didn't have enough days left to wait.

I almost got a custom-made cherry blossom case
when I found the one.

Mother-of-pearl iPhone case.

It's unusual, it's elegant, it's iridescent

I love Japan.
I'm convinced that this is the only country in the world
where so many iPhone cases are available to the public.

No wonder I always complain that I can't find anything
in Switzerland.

I'm simply spoiled having grown up in Japan.

Ahh.

What a wonderful country.

今、途中まで書いてたのが消えちゃった。。。
スタバのwifiが勝手にページ更新するから。

話しは変わって。
この前ラスベガスでお泊まり会があったばかりだけど、
既に今年のお泊まり会してきました。
帰国した時に楽しみにしてる恒例行事です！

今回は指向を変えて、
都内で優雅なホテルに泊まってだらだら。
白金台のお洒落なお店やシロガネーゼを観察するのが目的。

目黒駅からシャトルに乗ってこの夜のお宿へ。

チェックイン＋寛いだ後は、探索開始。

僕にとってはこの地域は未知の世界。
僕のiPhoneのみどこをどういったのかを知っている。

まずは最初の目的地、キルフェボンへ。

何回ここのタルトを食べた事だろう、今回帰国中に。

銀座店とは違って、代官山店は待たなかったし混んで無い。
運がいいだけ？　それとも穴場？

お腹が楽しんだ後は目の保養。
暗くなりつつ有る代官山を
天気予報では教えてくれなかった雨のなか歩いて、
最近開館したばかりの美術館へ。

郷さくら美術館。

一階に展示されている桜の屏風（？）が素敵だった。　
こんな絵が栄える家に住んでみたい。

絵の桜を見た後は本物の桜へ移行。

この数日前まではライトアップされていた様＋既に葉桜。
そうは言っても夜桜は風情がある。

この後は、どこで何をしようか迷った末、
近所にあった良さそうな居酒屋さんへ。

なんとか風の焼そば

全て美味しかったけど値段の割には量がすくなかったな。。。

お店をでた時にはパラパラ降っていた雨が本降りに。
昔から米人の約束と天気予報って当てにならないっていうしね。

土砂降りの中をホテルに帰り、
この夜はまったりと夜更かししたのでした。

I knew I didn't wanna stay at home all day.

But I ddin't know what to do with my time in Tokyo.

So, I decided to just head out and see what happens.


Off to Ikebukuro.

Here, I had this for lunch.

Motsunabe at Oyama in Parco.
(If you don't know what it is, wiki can help you.)

This was probably my first time eating motsunabe,
but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Ohh, the rich broth, the piping hot veggies and the sublime motsu...

It's miso-y and garlicky, just what I like

Amazingly, this satisfying meal for one costs only 1200 yen.
What a bargain!!
Here in Switzerland, that money won't even get you a value meal.

This meal really hit a home run.
The right kind of meat, the right kind of flavor profile,
and of course, the right kind of budget.

After this....
What did I do?

Oh, yes, I went to a super sento.
Just because I didn't really have plans until the evening.
And just because I didn't wanna walk too much...

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately??)

After feeling positively refreshed and relatively relaxed,
I made my way to Shibuya.

Again, another black-out.
I think I had a few hours to kill.

It was finally 7 pm, I met up with a friend.
We met through the intensive summer course at Unige last year.

It's always fun to see someone you know in a different country.
That unreal feeling of misplacement is ticklishly pleasurable.

In the rain, we walked to a chic izakaya.

Amuse.
Spinach something and cherry tomatoes.

Broiled squid salad.

Seafood in Japan is so much more fresh than....(you know where.)

Clams and fresh bamboo shoots in a broth.

Gentle and soothing.

As-much-as-you-can-fit-on-the-plate fresh organic veggies.

I was ambitiously greedy, but of course, we cleaned it out.

Shiitake in oil.

Simple but rich.

To end the meal, kamameshi with sea bream.

The delicate flavor of this dish epitomizes Japanese cuisine ,
in my humble opinion.
The word I'm looking for is "Umami",
as they now say in English, too.

In sum, I did practically nothing but eat.
Accomplished nothing but filling my stomach with good food.

I suppose it's not a bad way to spend a day, though

日本から帰って来てもう早一週間。

東京も怪しい天気が続いてたけどジュネーブもまたおかしい。
一体なんなんだろう。。。　　

日本に帰ってもちろん楽しかったけど、
３週間目からは自分のベッドが恋しかったのも事実。
今回初めてジュネーブに帰って来てホッとしたし。

どうしたんだろう、僕

それにしても、スイスに帰って来てちょっとショックを受けています。


冷たい。。。

とっても冷たい。。。。。


「何が？」って？



トイレの便座が

帰って来て初めて座った時、余りの冷たさに叫んでしまった程。

日本はどこに行ってもウォシュレットが付いてて
便座が温かいからすっかり慣れてしまったけど、
スイスでは温まってないもんね


嗚呼、早く暖かくならないかな〜

４週間みてなかった我が子にも再会できて幸せ

後１週間すれば冷たい便座にも慣れるかな？？

About three weeks after my arrival,
Steven finally came to Japan to join us.

In an ideal world, the four of us would take a trip to Shikoku.
But with no interests in all possible worlds,
our family took a short day trip to Asakusa.

Something light and easy for my aging parents...

From the train, we could see Tokyo Sky Tree.

Too bad it wasn't open to public yet when we were there.
(Then again, I'm not interested in it...)


Suddenly Tokyo Tower wasn't good enough?
I don't really know why we need to have another ginormous tower.

Along with the famous Poop landmark of Asakusa.

Maybe because Asakusa seems too touristic,
we have gone there few times.

So, this time, we tried to see something different.

We went all the way up the tacky gold building next to the Poop.
(Sorry, no pictures worth putting up here...)

We explored the covered arcade a little away from the main street.

We sampled the local cuisine.

Hamburg steak for me and Mommy.
Daddy chose beef curry or something picture-unworthy.

Omerice for Steven.

They were all good.
Very old-timey, very Asakusa even.

But also very expensive...
Especially for this kind of food.
I guess this restaurant is very well-known,
and that's why they can do business like that.

After the late lunch, I wanted to go through "Hoppi-dori".

It's a small street filled with izakaya type places.

The menu and the prices seemed very appealing,
but unfortunately we had just ate.

Next time. Next time.

Meanwhile, the sky was starting to look even more ominous.
The forecast said it was gonna be rainy.
And voilà, it started to rain.

So we left Asakusa.
It was nice to walk around somewhere different with the family.

Apparently, not tired enough,
we decided to go to karaoke

Steven sang enka and my parents were very impressed

Family outing, a success!!!

この日も母上と共に行動した僕なのですが、
池袋から開始したこの一日。

まずはお昼から。
パルコに入っている京鼎樓へ行って来ました。
お昼のセットを注文して、もちろん最初にこれ。

小龍包。
今回の帰国時に食べたかった物の一つ。
（自分で作った時は肉まん化してしまったので。。。）

メインの麻婆湯麺。

コクがあってピリリとして美味しかった〜。

そして、デザート！

辛い物の後にあっさりとして口直し的。

日本はなんでも美味しくて、しかもお手頃な値段で、素晴らしい。
（どっかの国に、どことは言わないけど、見習って欲しい。）

その後は渋谷に行ってしばしカラオケを楽しんで
いつも一人で行ってるのでやっぱり誰かと行くと楽しいですね

そしてまた移動。
今度は青山へ。

この地ではこれが目的。

４月１５日までだったので既に終わってしまいましたが、
お友達が教えてくれた写真展「The Little Black Jacket」。

シャネルのアイコニックなジャケットを著名人が着てる写真の集まり。
もちろん撮ったのは誰他ならずカール・ラガーフェルド。

いつも食べてばかりいる僕の帰国生活に
吹き込んだ新鮮な美の風。

良かったです

その後は、母が好きなこれを買って帰宅しました。

キルフェボンのタルト。
軽くて食べ易いから何個も食べられそう。。。　
危険。

って結局また「食」に戻ってしまいました。。。

After the fabulous izakaya experience,
we refused to called it a night.

So our friend took us to her favorite hangout.

My drink, Yuzu & honey tea.
Absolutely delicious.

Someone else had latte.

It appears a bear is eating a boy.
We appreciate this kind of dark humor

As if we didn't eat enough, we ordered some desserts.

Caramel banana pie? Something like that.
It wasn't my kinda thing, but this was so good

This was something to do with green tea and ......

My memory is too fuzzy.
But especially since the banana pie was so good,
this one paled in comparison a bit.

I think it's awesome how there are cafes like this open at late night.
Apparently this one is open all night long
I wonder if there's anywhere that's open all night long in Geneva.


But we had a hotel to check in...
Staying here all night long has to wait until maybe next year.

From Shimokitazawa,
we took a train to Shinjuku.
Then we took the Toei Shinjuku line to Hamacho.

It was after midnight when we finally checked in at the hotel.

APA Hotel in Hamacho.

I had thought the hotel was well located.
But that wasn't the case.

Although Ueno and Tokyo stations were close,
it was really annoying to get to by train.

At least, the room was clean and the bed was comfy,
and the shower's water pressure was strong.
(Water pressure is very important to me.)


After a restful night's sleep, we could see this from the room.

この度、この旅、初めて「下北沢」へ行って来ました。

日本に住んでた時は吉祥寺に住んでて、渋谷で仕事してたのに、
そして毎日の様に井の頭線で下北沢を通過してたのに一度も降りなかった。

もうそれも終わり！
下北沢デビューしたのです！

ここのエリアに詳しいお友達に案内してもらって色々と古着屋巡り。

その後は楽しみにしていた居酒屋タイム

まずは皮が好きなので、それから開始。

ああ〜、なんで僕は太る物が好きなんだろう。。。

その後はタコのエスカルゴ的な物。

にんにくが効いてていいね

そして旬の空豆。

枝豆は季節じゃないからその代わり。
その時期にあったものがやっぱり美味しいんですよね。

海老の練り物の湯葉揚げ的な物。

確かそんな感じ。　
湯葉懐かしい！

温野菜の盛り合わせ。

れんこんって今の僕にはかなりツボ。
前はそんなに好きじゃなかったけど。

これはね〜、なんだっけかな。
ししとうみたいな物なんだけど、淡路島？　桜島？　石垣島？
確かどっかの島で穫れた青野菜。
それを炙り焼いた物。

最近はこういうシンプルな物が美味しいとつくづく感じる。

僕は〆に明太子おにぎり。

こういうプレゼンテーションは初めて見た。
明太子LOVE

あ〜あ、僕高脂肪、高コレステロールな物がお好みな様で。。。

とっても美味しかったしとっても楽しかった！
（あ、ごめんなさい、ここのお店の名前分からない。。。）
（一体どんなブログだろ。。。）

気の許せる友達と居酒屋でわいわいガヤガヤって楽しいですね
