Creepy Hotel by the Castle

After we left Swarovski Crystal World,
we made our way to
what would be our home for the next two nights.

The journey through the mountainous Tyrol region
was pastoral and picturesque,
that is, until it decided to rain dogs and cats.

It started to rain extremely hard,
and the sound of raindrops hitting the windshield was loud
to the point it scared poor Truffle sleeping on my lap.

Since the visibility was compromised by the rain and the darkness,
driving also became less enjoyable and more challenging for Steven.

By the time we arrived in Schwangau, where the hotel was,
it was already 9 pm. A lot later than our scheduled arrival time.

The hotel is located above a restaurant,
just below the gate of Neuschwanstein Castle.

When I first heard that we'd be staying in a room above a restaurant,
right next to a castle,
I had imagined that this place was a convivial, romantic place.
You know, a place like in the old days where knights and travelers
would come to a pub and ask the barman if there was a room.
That kind of place, I thought this was gonna be.

What we arrived to couldn't have been more different.
It was a dark, somber place with no apparent signs of life.
Lively pub? No.
A haunted house? Yes.

In the rain, outside an enormous and empty castle,
it couldn't have been scarier.

No one was working there.
No receptionists, no porters.
All there was was a call box.

Using it, Steven talked to someone,
and that mysterious person told him to retrieve our room key
from one of the locked boxes next to the call box.
(This part was rather futuristic.)

Inside the building was also dark and scary.
No sign of life.
It was unnaturally quiet.

When we came to the hall way where was room was,
a lady came out from her room.
This shocked me because I didn't expect to see anyone,
but also she looked under nourished and ghostly.

Once she saw us, she went back into her room...

As it was getting late, we went down to the town right away
after we dropped our luggage off.

On the way to the town,
I said to Steven,
"That lady was creepy and looked very unstable.
I hope she's not a serial killer."

Then he says to me,
"Serial killers are rarely women."

"Rarely, you say."

Steven tried to reassure me.
"Yes, rarely, so you don't need to worry about her."

But I didn't find that remark reassuring.
"But that means there are 'a few' out there.
She could be one of rare ones."

"Well, we'd better lock the door tonight."
So he suggested.

We were all exhausted from the intense drive.
Thankfully, we slept very well despite our concerns.

But in the broad daylight,
this creepy restaurant hotel looked much more cheerful.

With the proximity to the Neuschwanstein Castle,
its creepiness can be easily forgotten.

I didn't exactly feel like Cinderella,
but I enjoyed staying in a place so close to the Cinderella Castle006.gif
