From Mini Palais' Deadly Tartare to Parisian Sweets

"Smooth" isn't the word used to describe our second day in Paris.

Even from the hotel to Champs-Elysées wasn't straight-forward.
It had started raining while we were on the metro.

Luckily, we had umbrellas,
but since the place of our interest was near,
we preferred to get a bit wet than to hold wet umbrellas.

When we got there, (I might reveal what this place is later)
the receptionist told me that there was no appointment with my name.

Of course, they switched my first and last name... D'oh.
This keeps happening to me way too often.

She figures it out a few minutes later,
then she calls the lady with whom I have the appointment and says,

"Ah, Monsieur Blah-blah is here to see you,
uh mm, the problem is, he came with a dog....."

So, in my head, I'm thinking,
"Oh no, does Steven have to stay here with Truffle here?"

But then after she gets off the phone,
she just asks us to hold him off the floor, which we're happy to do.

No major crisis, just a bumpy road.
It had stopped raining by the time we were done.
After the appointment, we hit some stores and shopped.
Soon enough, it was time for lunch.

Last time we couldn't come here, but not this time.
Mini Palais.

I guess the balcony seating is so popular,
you have to have a reservation to get a table there.

But neither do we want to sit in the sun nor feel the hot air in the terrace.

The restaurant, at least inside, wasn't crowded or too busy.

But the food took forever to come and greet us.

At least, they gave us this bizarre,
yorkshire pudding kinda thing to nibble on.

My patience was seriously being tested
when the people who came much later than us got their food,
but at last, they came.

My beef tartare.

It tasted nothing like the other beef tartares I've tasted in the past.
There was so much mayonnaise in it, it was just wrong.

It wasn't just me who ordered raw food.

Steven's salade niçoise.

So, the mystery is,
why did it take close to 1 whole hour cooking these raw dishes?

Anyway, don't go to Mini Palais.
More specifically, don't order the beef tartare.

The following morning, I woke up with a certain urgency...
Very fortunately, I didn't have a full-on food poisoning,
but what I was experiencing must have been a minor case of it.

Back to the second day in Paris...

It got much better from there on.
Shopping, shopping, shopping.
Zara, Uniqlo, Printemps, Galleries Lafayette.

And it got sweeter when we were too tired to shop.
We took a break at Angelina in Lafayette.

Choc Mont-Blanc.

A bit too sweet,
but delicious and what I needed in my exhausted state.

Sugar high kicked in, ready to shop again!!

The department store was barely air-conditioned.
With the mass of shoppers, the temperature was even higher.
I love shopping, but that environment was close to a torture.

I wish I could carry around a personal air-conditioner008.gif

Before we left the store, we bought after-dinner desserts.

As we were emerging from the metro,
Steven tripped slightly.

Result.

Cake collision.

I told you, the day wasn't smooth.

However the appearance might be, they were still delicious.

And this is how our day ended,

"Sweet"
