How many times does a man need to go to the market in a day?

I don't know whose fault it was, or it should be,
but I was unspeakably annoyed last Saturday...

So, we figured out our routine.
On friday evenings, we go to the market
and stock up for the weekend.

Important things for you to know are;

1. Stores are closed on Sundays.

2. Stores are crazy busy on Saturdays.

3. You have to buy whatever you need by 6 p.m. Saturday.

Still, around the time everyone is off work,
the market usually gets fairly packed.

Last Friday, though, I couldn't find a regular cabbage
and fresh-looking scallions.

We thought,
"Oh, well, we can buy them at the flea market tomorrow."

Saturday morning, I woke up unusually early, at 9 a.m..
(I know, it's not that early for many people (>_<)...)

The weather outside looked miserable.
So, thinking it'd be better to get it out of the way sooner,
I went to a supermarket right next to our apartment building.
Practically in my pajamas.

And no line!!! Hallelujah!!

I don't like coming here because it is always really crowded,
but since it was early enough, I didn't need to wait, and
I bought the needed fresh produce.

Later that day, the weather recovered, and we went out.
To the flea market.

It wasn't snowing anymore, but it was painfully cold...

We were looking for an antique picture frame.
There were many, but none of them were quite right.
Then, out of the blue, Steven found something that
he had been looking for.

A bath stool.

Our bathtub is high, and so it's hard to go in and out of it.
We looked everywhere, like IKEA, Fly, Micasa, but no contender.

Reenactment:

Steven: "Yas, look!! What do you think of this stool?!"
Yas: "Oh, that old thing? ....................."
Steven: "It looks sturdy enough!! And a good height!!"
Yas: "Ah huh..."
Steven: "Should we get it!?"
Yas: "Ah................... Find out how much it is."

Steven: "Excuse me, sir, how much is this?"
Vender: "That, is 10 francs. (= about $10)"

Steven: "10, that's not bad. Yas, what do you think?"
Yas: "You can get it only if you bargain."
Steven: "Oh, you know I hate to do that!!!"
Yas: "......." (Irritated.)

Yas: "Excuse me, sir, can you give us this for 8?"
Vender: "No, 10. That's the price I've been telling people all day."

Yas: "Steven. Let's think and maybe come back later."
Steven: "Ok..." (Deflated.)

Yas and Steven started to walk away.

Vender: "Ok, ok, 8 is fine if you wanna take it."
Yas: "Steven, do you want it?"
Steven: "YES!!!" (Childishly excited, though somewhat contained.)

And so, we got it.
This is the winning prize.

Ordinary?
Maybe so, but it makes our bathing experience more pleasant.

After visiting a few places, we went home, frozen.
On our way home, Steven went to the nearby market
to get some sugar for baking.

To my surprise, he joined me at home sooner than expected.
He said there weren't any lines there.

Weird. A good weird.

********************

I was minding my own business when I realized that
we didn't buy eggs the night before.
I quickly glanced outside. It's getting dark.
I went to the microwave to check the time.
5:45 p.m.
15 minutes to the closing time.
"I still got time."
Put on the jacket, I went to the market next door.

As soon as I entered, I saw 2 long lines of people at the registers.
I cursed myself.

All I needed was a pack of eggs. Just one damn thing.
I ended up spending good 20 minutes in line.

When I got home, I was furious.
Steven only fueled my anger with his oblivion.

Why is life so inconvenient here!?
