Dinner Party Chez Nous

Steven came home one day and told me that
the Scottish People like Udon, the thick Japanese noodles.
Apparently they haven't been able to get decent Udon noodles.

Well, then why don't I make Udon from scratch?
Have them come over for dinner?

During the week, I decided to do all the prep work.
We don't wanna be slaving in the kitchen on the day of
and miss the whole party.

After going to the local Japanese supermarkets,
I realized I couldn't make Udon because the flour I needed
wasn't available here. So, I bought the dried kind013.gif
At least, I made the broth from scratch.

Without further ado, here's the menu!

Amuse-bouche 1:

Cold Tofu, drizzled with Ponzu. On top, green and red Yuzu pepper.
Super easy, but I like this.

Amuse-bouche 2:

English cucumber with Ume, Miso, cream cheese dip on top.
Experimental. Weird...

Amuse-bouche 3:

Butanokakuni=Braised pork, beneath, Daikon, above, lemon zest.
Cooked for 2 days. Daikon is a Japanese radish.

Amuse-bouche 4:

A variation of no. 3.
The same pork, Daikon, mâche, Karashi wrapped by rice paper.

Starter:

Spinach and Tofu.
The dressing is inspired by our favorite Italian restaurant in Japan,
il chianti's famous dressing.

Main:

Tempura Udon.
Deep fried veggies and shrimp, cold Udon with home-made sauce.
This evening happened to be very hot, and frying these things
in the kitchen wasn't exactly my idea of a graceful dinner party...

Dessert:

Green Tea Cheese Cake.

Originally, I was only going to serve the pork, tempura udon and
the cheese cake. But somehow I always complicate things...

Steven made some interesting saketini.
Like Martini, but made with Sake instead.
Blueberry and pear, cherry and grenadine and so on.

The warm weather was perfect for spending time and
entertaining The Scottish People on the balcony.
By the time they left, I was dead tired042.gif
But we all had fun, so in the end, it was all worth it.

I'm throwing another dinner party for Mr. & Mrs. Jazz this weekend.
The idea seems a bit daunting to my recovering soul023.gif
